Creating Cosmetic Threads with Solidworks

by Selvam

Modeling screws and fasteners can be a hassle if one does not know how to model one. And most of the time, we would not need to have an exact model of a screw or fasteners, but just a part to represent one. With Solidworks you can easily do so by creating cosmetic threads instead of modeling it. What is good about this function is that you are able to define the kind of thread you want, which allows for the information to be transferred to the drawing!

Here I have a short tutorial to show how to add a cosmetic thread:

Also, by using the cosmetic thread function instead of modeling the thread, the file size will be smaller and also allows for faster rebuild time. This will help especially if it is used in big assemblies.
